Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about QLD smoke alarm requirements

What are the QLD smoke alarm requirements?

As of January 1, 2027, all Queensland rental properties must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in all bedrooms, hallways, and on every level of the property. Owner-occupied homes have until 2027 for existing homes sold.

How many smoke alarms do I need?

Smoke alarms must be installed:
on each storey
- in each bedroom
- in hallways that connect bedrooms and the rest of the dwelling
- where there is no hallway, a smoke alarm must be installed between the bedroom and other parts of the storey - where there are no bedrooms on a storey, at least one smoke alarm must be installed in the most likely path of travel to exit the dwelling.

Use our calculator to give you the exact number based on your property.

What type of smoke alarms are required?

Queensland requires photoelectric smoke alarms that are hardwired or have a 10-year lithium battery. All alarms must be interconnected so when one sounds, they all sound.

How long does installation take?

Most installations take 1-2 hours depending on the number of alarms. We'll have you compliant before lunch!

Do you provide a compliance certificate?

Yes! Every installation includes a free compliance certificate emailed to you immediately after completion. This proves your property meets QLD legislation.

What warranty do you offer?

All our smoke alarms come with a 10-year manufacturer warranty. We also guarantee our workmanship for the life of the alarms.

Don't Wait To Book

All homes in Queensland must have compliant smoke alarms installed in less than 12 months.
