What you need to know about rental minimum standards
All landlords and property managers must meet Victoria’s rental minimum standards before a property can be advertised for rent. Introduced by the Victorian Government in March 2021, these standards cover 15 categories designed to ensure rental properties are safe, secure and functional.
Enforcement has since intensified. Failure to meet minimum standards is a criminal offence, with maximum penalties exceeding $61,000 for companies and more than $12,000 for individual owners. Penalties may apply to both landlords and property managers, and Consumer Affairs Victoria maintains a public Rental Non-Compliance Register, increasing visibility and accountability across the sector.
While the requirements can feel complex, gaining clarity doesn’t have to be. A Rental Minimum Standards inspection provides a clear, affordable assessment of your property’s compliance status, with a detailed report issued within 24 hours of inspection.
Pool Compliance Checks
All pools and spas in Victoria are legally required to have safety barriers inspected and a compliance certificate lodged with council. A scheduled inspection every four years by an experienced RentSafe pool inspector helps ensure your pool or spa continues to meet regulated safety standards.
When you book a Pool Compliance Check, you receive a detailed inspection report, a compliance certificate where no rectification is required, and a reminder service so future checks aren’t missed. If rectification is needed, clear recommendations are provided, and any follow-up inspections are charged at half the cost of the initial inspection.
