Preparing for your appointment can avoid a second visit
There are a few steps you can take prior to your appointment to ensure we can be in and out of your property without disruption.
Why does preparing for our visit matter?
If we can't safely access an area, we may need to return for a follow-up visit. Where the access issue is a renter responsibility, any additional call-out fee may be passed on to you - so it's worth a quick scan of the points below.
Pets
If you have pets, please let our technician know. It’s safest if they’re kept secure or supervised during the visit.
Furniture
No need to move heavy furniture, just try to keep areas around power points, gas appliances, meters, and switchboards clear.
Locked areas
Please unlock any rooms, sheds, or garages so we can access everything we need for a thorough check.
Heaters
If you have heaters, please turn them off before we arrive. This helps our technicians inspect them safely.
Manholes and ceiling access
Clear any furniture, storage or belongings from underneath these.
Heating and cooling
Clear access to vents, ducted units and indoor / outdoor air-con units.
Hot water service
Clear items or furniture around the unit. If overgrown vegetation is blocking access, flag it with your property manager first.
Switchboard
Keep the area around your electrical switchboard clear of storage.
Why rental safety checks and minimum standards matter
Rental regulations may differ from state to state, but all safety checks and rental minimum standards are designed to keep rental properties safe and comfortable, and with the wellbeing of renters front of mind. Your rental provider is legally required to carry out the checks mandated under their state's rental laws — these aren't optional inspections, it's the law.

Smoke Alarm Safety Checks
Our Grade A Electricial will test your alarms will be tested (this can be noisy — sorry!), clean and check them for correct placement, put in new batteries and replace any faulty or expired smoke alarms if needed.
Electrical Safety Checks
Power may be turned off briefly (usually 5–20 mins - we try and keep this as short as we can), switchboard and safety switches are checked, and all appliances (including air conditioners) will be switched on to check they’re working safely. Our Grade A Electrician will need access to all rooms, power points, garages and bungalows.

Gas Safety Checks
Gas appliances are each turned on and tested by our Type A Gasfitter, gas leak testing is completed along with testing for carbon monoxide on applicable appliances.
Rental Minimum Standards Checks
Our technician will walk through the inside and outside of your property, checking and photographing 19 areas of standards ranging from door locks, kitchen facilities and heating, to bathroom fixtures, lighting and bins. They will also fit blind cord anchors where required to secure loose cords.
