New Year’s resolutions are easy to make and notoriously hard to keep. Between day-to-day priorities, changing legislation and growing compliance obligations, even the best intentions can slip. The good news? Maintaining rent roll compliance is one resolution that’s both achievable and impactful—with the right systems and support in place.

Rental Minimum Standards remain a key focus for Victorian property managers, particularly with ongoing enforcement by Consumer Affairs Victoria and new compliance categories coming into effect. Staying organised and proactive is the best way to reduce risk and avoid penalties.

Recent CAV audits show the most common breaches include missed gas, electrical and smoke alarm safety checks, bond lodgement issues, misleading advertising and failure to meet Rental Minimum Standards.

Here are three practical resolutions to help keep your rent roll compliant this year.

1. Stay on Top of Timing

It sounds straightforward, but ensuring all required safety checks are completed before their expiry dates and that Rental Minimum Standards inspections are carried out before properties are advertised is a huge job to manage across a portfolio of properties. Each property represents a different schedule of safety checks, different requirements and different owner relationships.

Taskforce’s Compliance To-Do List brings all properties and jobs requiring attention into one central view within the portal, making it easy to see what’s due, what’s overdue and what action is needed—without relying on manual tracking. See your notes, rectification quotes, property, owner and renter details, along with due dates all in the one clear dashboard.

Plus we offer flexible options to align your safety checks, accommodating the different compliance schedules across your property portfolio. Read more here.

2. Maintain Clear Rent Roll Compliance Records

Accurate documentation is essential for demonstrating rent roll compliance and responding to audits efficiently. Centralised reporting also reduces admin time and compliance risk.

Taskforce’s 2-way integrations with leading CRMs such as PropertyMe and MRI Property Tree, ensures your compliance reports and certificates are accessible when required from your CRM dashboard.

3. Prioritise Education and Training

Keeping up with regulatory changes is critical. Understanding when new requirements apply—and communicating these clearly to your owners—helps avoid last-minute issues and non-compliance.
