Plaster is one of the most popular materials for building walls because it can be molded in different forms. However, this material is not invincible to scratches and cracks. If you have walls made of plaster, it is crucial that you learn the skill of repairing plaster cracks.

  1. Clean up the surface: Locate the cracked area and clean it before you begin with the repair.  Remove bits of plaster or any other material from the crack. Use a soft-bristle brush for hard-to-reach areas. Cleaning the damaged area will let you begin with a clean slate and end with polished result.
  2. Apply some tape: Once you are done cleaning, apply a strop of tape for drywall finishing on it. Cover the entire crack with it. Put the tape on it and be careful not to overlap.
  3. Apply some spackle: After covering the crack with tape, apply a reasonable amount of spackle on it. Be careful not put too much spackle on the surface. This will give smooth finish and firm foundation.
  4. Sand the patch: Allow the spackle to air dry completely. I advise that you leave the paste overnight so it can adhere to the wall very well. Once the spackle is dried, sand the surface to get rid of rough patches.
  5. Prime the area: After sanding, apply a small amount of primer above it to prevent future stains and give it lovely gloss.
  6. Paint: Paint the patch with color that is similar to the rest of the wall. It would be better to use the same brand and the same type of paint. You may have to reapply a few times to achieve desired shade.
  7. Allow to dry: Leave the paint to air dry, and then check your work. If you are not satisfied, repeat the steps.
