The front door is one of the first things people see when they look at your home. Whether you’re thinking of simply adding your favourite shade or moving into an entirely new colour, read these tips before doing anything.

The Time to Paint Painting any part of your home shouldn’t be done on impulse if you want to save resources. Dedicate a day or two of picking a color, buying supplies and completing the task. Ideally, do it on a sunny day because the temperature will allow the paint to dry faster.

The Colour Print the small boxes and fill them with different colours. Cut them out and tape on your front door to see which of them can do the job. Narrow your options to three then purchase small samples of each color. Paint them on a wood to create larger swatches and observe their changes throughout the day.

The Paint Apply exterior paint if there is nothing that protects your front door from external elements. Although there are no restrictions when it comes to the finish, professional painters in Perth prefer glossy paints because they draw attention. They are also more resistant to chips and scrapes compared to flat paints.

But before anything else, you must know if the existing paint is oil or latex-based so you will know the right type of primer to use.

The Preparation You may remove the door and paint it in the backyard or complete the task with it in place. Whichever you prefer, make sure to clean the door first. Wipe it well using a rag then sand out the blemishes. Wipe it again to remove the dust then apply paint. Prime if you’re painting an entirely different color.

How to Do It Once the primer is completely dry, apply paint using a brush or a foam roller.

Tip: Painting can be tricky. You could end up with uneven shades or visible brush or roller marks. For a guaranteed laudable result, call a professional painter in Perth.
