One of the details that people often overlook when buying new doors is the type of lock. It’s a small detail that has a huge impact to the level of security of your home. Generally, there are 4 types of locks. Read on the get to know each option.

Rim Mount

Also called vertical dead bolt, this type of lock looks like a dead bolt lock turned sideways. Among all lock options, rim mount is the easiest to install. You just have to attach it to the exterior side of the door. However, it is not a great choice as a primary lock. Experts say rim mount locks are only ideals are secondary locks, for added protection.

Full Mortise

If you want the entry way to have an elegant detail, choose a full mortise lock. It looks incredibly like a traditional key-in-knob lock. The most notable different is the separation of the lock and knob. However, some components of the knob are connected with the lock. Take note that full mortise locks should be installed by professional locksmith. And once installed, they become part of the door.

Dead Bolt

Dead bolt locks are relatively cheaper and easier to install. However, it is just a wonderful addition to your security because it is not effective as a primary lock. Since dead bolt locks are notably affordable, you should think twice of installing them to your doors.

Key-In-Knob

The traditional type of lock is still the favourite of many. It becomes a part of the door once installed. Just like a dead bolt lock, it is easy to install. If this is the lock you have at home, consider installing secondary locks.
