Since you’ll be gathering around the fireplace this winter, it would be nice to have the TV just above it, right? Mounting a TV to your brick wall fireplace can be a bit tricky. Follow these steps for a safe and successful completion.

1. Figure Out the Perfect Spot for the TV Sadly, it is not completely up to us where the TV should be placed. If you are going to mount the plasma television on your brick wall fireplace, you will have to consult the manufacturer about it.

Take note that the fireplace produces heat which could blight the components of your plasma TV. Thus, you will have to check the manufacturer’s recommendation regarding the distance of the base of the TV from the fireplace.

2. Put it On the Center

After you’ve determined the recommended distance between the TV and the fireplace it’s time to center the equipment. Most often, mounting brackets will have to installed before the TV is fastened. Consider the orientation the brackets for premium results.

3. Install the Brackets

Mark the spot of the brackets on your brackets and move the drill holes of the bracket to the wall. Experts suggest that instead of drilling into the brick itself, find the mortar joints and drill in them. This is because brick can crack. If you’re drilling into the mortar joints, some adjustments may be needed on the bracket.

A hammer drill is neccesseracy if you are working on a masonry or cement. If you don’t have one, rent out the equipment.

4. Mount Your TV

It is imperative to use proper anchor when installing any thing to a wall. An expansion anchor is highly recommended when mounting heavy objects such as plasma televisions. Anchors that are at least ¼” thick and 2 ½”-3 ½” long are ideal for this job. After the holes are drilled, hammer the anchors and install the brackets using the provided hardware.
