Have you been planning to do some gardening, but has been held back by the idea that you don’t have a green thumb? Don’t let the legend of the green thumb hold the shovel. With research, careful planning, patience and hard work, it is possible to have the verdant garden you’ve been dreaming about. If you already know what to do, you should also the things you shouldn’t do.

1.Picking the Wrong Site

You’ll normally start the project by picking a location for your little garden. It would be lovely to have a flowerbed just right out of your front window or a vegetable patch near the deck, right? But it’s not really within your control.

Depending on the plant that you want to put in your garden, assess the amount of sunlight that strikes the area. Give at least two days for the assessment. If the plant thrives under a lot of sunlight, make sure there is no tree or any structure that casts shadow over the target site.

Also, be aware of the possibility that large roots will twine around pipes or wires buried underground. If you want to plan seeds of large trees, it is strongly-advised to speak to the utility company first.

2.Planning Too Big

The thought of growing plants that will give your free ingredients for a salad might overwhelm you, to the point the scope of your project would go beyond your capabilities. Keep in mind that a bigger garden requires bigger work load. So, take the small steps, and as you gain knowledge, you can gradually expand the garden. But if you have the budget to go big on this endeavor and make every passer-by turn his head, find help in Australia.

3.Ignoring Soil Conditions

If you’re not comfortable with the bed, you’re very unlikely to get a sound sleep, right? This is also the case of plants if they are planted in the wrong soil. Checking soil conditions is just a tiny stride in starting up the garden, but it has huge impact to the result of the project.

Bring a few scoops of soil from your target location and bring them to a laboratory for analysis. The technicians will be able to tell the type of soil you have and the concentration of various minerals in it. With that data, you will know what to do add to the soil to make it favorable to your plants.

4.Not Thinking About Security

You can’t watch the garden 24/7, but you can still protect it from hungry animals by putting up an enclosure. During the day, the surroundings may look calm, but it doesn’t mean that there won’t be mayhem at night. It doesn’t take long before the scent lushly leaves and juicy fruits appear reach the nose of the pillagers.

5.Choosing the Wrong Plant and Planting it the Wrong Way

No matter how much you love pineapples it won’t grow well with the wrong climate. Some plants prefer the tropical climate, while others thrive well where it’s a bit chilly. Read the seed packets because they typically disclose the top requirements of the plant. You may also run a research about the plants recommended for the type of climate that you have. Don’t forget to take note of the depth the seeds. For huge projects, it is best to hire gardening experts in Australia.
