A mesh of wires and cables can be seen in a typical computer desk or media center. These tangles aren’t only painful to eyes but also produce hindrances in getting things done. You can be delayed with the confusion as to which cable should connect to which device.  Several times I accidentally unplugged the computer while a program is being installed. I’ve learned the importance of keeping cords organized the hard way. Thankfully, I found some techniques to prevent myself from yanking the wrong string and keeping my space neat.

The sight of tangles of wires, cords and cables can drain your energy and can give the feeling that you just have to let them stay that way. But in reality, you can have more control over these things. Come by a home improvement store to find solutions for organizing strings of electronic devices. There are numerous packaged solutions out there that can help you streamline your computer desk, media center and utility drawers. For a $5-$20 solution, you can get better access to whichever wire, cord or cable you need. You can also improve efficiency with some DIY projects using simple household items like binder clips, toiler paper rolls, sandwich bags and zip ties.

Always watch out for potential fire hazards when handling anything that conducts electricity. I urge you not to put paper or any other flammable material too close to electrical outlets. Also, never put wires, cords and cables under a lot of stress for this could wear them out and expose the conductor coils within them. It is strongly-discouraged to run wire under doors and floor coverings and to bend or twist consumer cables repetitively or forcefully. If a portion has been ripped open, cover it immediately with electrical tape. Note that I’m only talking about organising to consumer-level wires, cords and cables that you use every day and not major electrical wiring.

To minimize the clutter, make use of the non-visible around your work space. It can be the underside of your table or the back of a desk. Since these strings don’t are typically rounded, you can hide them in unusual positions.
